Cookie Policy

Version 1.0.0 · Effective 2026-07-06

This Cookie Policy explains the cookies and similar local-storage mechanisms Impostor uses, what each one does, and how you can control them. Read it alongside our Privacy Policy.

1. What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser so it can recognise you between page loads — for example, to keep you signed in or remember your language. Similar technologies (local storage, session storage) work the same way for the purposes of this policy.

2. Strictly-necessary cookies

These cookies are required for the Game to work. They do not need consent and are set for everyone.

NamePurposeCategoryDuration
access_tokenKeeps you signed in (short-lived)Strictly necessary15 minutes
refresh_tokenRenews your sign-in without re-typing anythingStrictly necessary30 days
themeRemembers your light / dark preferenceStrictly necessary1 year

The two authentication cookies are httpOnly, Secure, and SameSite=Lax, so they cannot be read by client-side JavaScript. They are only set once you sign in — guests do not receive them.

3. Analytics

We measure how the Game is used with a self-hosted Plausible Analytics instance and first-party usage events. Neither sets an advertising cookie, stores a cross-site identifier in your browser, or tracks you across other websites. Because our current analytics is cookie-less, it does not require consent. If we ever introduce cookie-based analytics, it will be treated as a non-essential cookie and set only after you consent.

4. Advertising cookies

Impostor is free and supported by advertising. Advertising partners may set cookies or read identifiers to show and measure ads. These cookies are non-essential and are set only after you consent through our consent banner.

  • They are never set before you make a choice.
  • If you reject them, you can still play the Game in full.
  • We will document each advertising cookie (name, provider, purpose, duration) here once advertising is live.

5. Managing your consent

When advertising or any other non-essential cookie is offered, a consent banner lets you accept, reject, or customise categories — all with equal weight, and with no pre-ticked boxes. A small consent cookie records your choice so we do not ask again on every visit.

You can revisit and change your choice at any time from the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer. Strictly-necessary cookies keep working regardless of your choice.

6. Controlling cookies in your browser

You can also delete or block cookies through your browser settings:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

Blocking the strictly-necessary cookies will sign you out and prevent you from using account features.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this page when our cookie use changes — in particular when advertising and the consent banner go live. The version and effectiveDate at the top reflect the current version.

8. Contact
